Thoughts on this...

"The major culprit of democratic possibilities here and abroad is the ever-expanding market culture that puts everything and everyone up for sale. The expansion of corporate power is driven by this sons. First, market activities of buying and selling, advertising and promoting weaken nonmarket activities of caring and sharing, nurturing and connecting. Short-term stimulation and instant titillation edge out quality relations and substantive community. Second, private aims trump public aspirations. Individual success---sometimes at any cost by any means---downplays fair and just transactions so workers' and citizens' power is weakened. And no democracy can survive, no matter how strong its markets are, without a serious public like and commitment to fairness and justice."

I agree to this:
'First, market activities of buying and selling, advertising and promoting weaken nonmarket activities of caring and sharing, nurturing and connecting. Short-term stimulation and instant titillation edge out quality relations and substantive community.'

then I almost fell asleep and had to look at some shoes online :)

Hmm...I could't forget this West dude.
This is what I found:
'West has made plain his opposition to the current war in Iraq.
He asserts that the Bush Administration is peopled with "hawks" who "are not simply conservative elites and right-wing ideologues," but rather are "evangelical nihilists — drunk with power and driven by grand delusions of American domination of the world."

"We are experiencing the sad gangsterization of America," he adds, "an unbridled grasp at power, wealth and status."

Viewing CAPITALISM as the root cause of these alleged American lusts, West warns, "Free-market fundamentalism trivializes the concern for public interest. It puts fear and insecurity in the hearts of anxiety-ridden workers. It also makes money-driven, poll-obsessed elected officials deferential to corporate goals of profit — often at the cost of the common good."

Screw the shoes then.

Greedy isn't it... Humanity (virtue, morality, etc...) to a certain point has faded.
